Dr Llewellyn To Head New Grants Committee

WELLINGTON, July 22. The Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund) today announced the appointment of Dr. F. J. Llewellyn as chairman of the new University Grants Committee. The committee will be established by legislation to be introduced in Parliament this session. A salary of £3BOO for the position was recommended by the Parry Committee. Dr. Llewellyn is at present vice-chancellor of the University of Canterbury. The establishment of the new grants committee was recommended by the Parry Commission. Dr. Llewellyn will advise the
Government on the preparation of draft legislation to establish the committee. Mr Skoglund said Dr. Llewellyn had a distinguished academic record as a scientist in England and New Zealand. He was formerly professor of chemistry at Auckland University College. Dr. Llewellyn has been a member of the University of New Zealand .research committee and the Defence Science Council. He is at present a member of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Council for Technical Education and the National Council of Adult Education.
