Budget Approval In Australia
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, July 22. The- Victorian Taxpayers’ Association today urged the Federal Government to follow the lead of the New Zealand Government in Budget taxation concessions. The New Zealand Budget announced yesterday gave a cut of 2d a gallon on petrol, reduced sales tax on motor vehicles from 40 to 33 1-3 per cent, and cut the tax on cigarettes by 2d on a packet of 20.
The secretary of the Victorian Taxpayers’ Association, Mr M. J. Pettigrove, said: “This is a good pointer to Mr Holt (Federal Treasurer). . The motorist has been heavily slugged over the years as though he must necessarily be a very wealthy person.”
