FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation.—A ridge ot high pressure is moving eastwards off New Zealand as a trough of low pressure approaches the country from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: — Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies near the coasts; north-westerlies, becoming fresh, in exposed inland areas; fine at first, but cloud increasing and rain developing in the Alps during the day; rising day temperatures. Outlook: colder, showery south-westerlies developing. Marlborough.—Light winds at first, but north-westerlies becoming fresh to strong in exposed areas during the day; partly cloudy with moderate temperatures. Outlook: rain developing. Nelson.—Light to moderate northerlies; cloud increasing. Outlook: clearing. West Coast.—Moderate variable winds; cloud increasing and rain developing from the south in Westland this afternoon, reaching Buller this evening; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showers early but improving from the soi>*h
