STAMP DUTY ABOLISHED
Marine Insurance Policies (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 21. In abolishing stamp duty on marine insurance policies from October 1. the Minister of Finance <Mr Nordmeyer) said in his Budget speech that other types of insurance policy were exempt from all stamp duties. ‘This special duty on marine insurance policies^—it has been in effect since 1867—is, in effect, largely a tax on exports, and as such is quite anachronistic today,” he said.
