The Canberra Engines
Sir,—While it is obvious that the Government is bent on making the maximum political capital out of the Canberra engines, it is pretty obvious that the affair demands close investigation, no matter whose toes are trodden on in the process. In my experience, too many of Our overseas friends still have that, “After all. old boy, they’re only a lot of jolly old natives, what?” mentality as applied to New Zealand. Anyway, one fact sticks out a mile, and that is that someone did a mighty poor reconditioning job on at least some of these engines. At the same time, I fail to see how any blame can be attributed to the National Government, which acted in all good faith but appears to have had something “put over” on it— Yours, etc, SIMPLE SIMON.
