Land Near Top Of Mount Pleasant
Land near the top of Mount Pleasant is being acquired not for a television station, but for a terminal, station for the mobile radio service.
The Post Office is negotiating to buy about seven acres on the north-west face of Mount Pleasant for a station site, said the department’s regional engineer, (Mr S. M. Reynolds) yesterday. The mobile radio service is one whereby persons can talk from vehicles to headquarters bases In Christchurch or adjacent areas. The service is largely used by taxi and carrying companies. A building to house receiving and transmitting equipment would be built on the site, and two signal masts, about 30ft high, erected, Mr Reynolds said.
