CITY STREET WORKS
Authority Given By Council A division of the street works covered by estimates into wards was given by the works committee of the City Council as follows:—Central ward, £5900. St. Albans £14.500. Spreydon £5250. Sydenham £4500, Linwood £13.420, Wools ton £5OO, New Brighton £12,700, Sumner £11350. Authority had been given for the work, most of which would be done by council staff, to be put in hand, the committee said. Authority had also been given for tenders to be invited for the lifeboat slipway and shed at the Sumner boat harbour, the Campbell street culvert, Avondale road bridge, waterworks pumping station in Carters road and a garage at the St Albans yard. In addition, there were other works to be carried out under roading or street improvements loans, and tenders had been invited for Briggs road reconstruction (Hills to Marshland roads). Marshland road reconstruction from Briggs road to Joy street Cresswell avenue kerbing and channelling, paths and reconstruction (northern half), Bromley road kerb, channel and paths from Linwood avenue to Maces road. Bower avenue (north from Flemington avene). and Cranford street kerb, channel and paths (north from McFaddens road). Under the waterworks loan, tenders had been invited for a pumping station in St. John street a pumping station in Grassmere street and additional piping in the Woodham road extension.
