AIRCRAFT FOR ARMY
Additions Urged In Report Because of the loss of one of the three Auster aircraft the number of aircraft available for training has fallen below the minimum number necessary to maintain the trained army pilots at the requisite standard, says the Chief of General Staff (Major-General Sir Stephen Weir) in the annual report of the New Zealand Army. “Consideration needs to be given in the forthcoming year to the purchase of additional aircraft if this essential part of the Army’s activities is to .be maintained,” says the report. During the year the Royal New Zealand Air Force held courses at Wigram to provide initial training for army officers in air observation-post flying and refresher flying training for previously qualified Army officer pilots.
