£60,000 For The Arts
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 21. A special fund of £60,000, half from the Consolidated Fund and half from art union funds, is to be set up to assist the arts, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nordmeyer) said in his financial statement. The fund was made because of the desirability of stimulating still further Interest in the cultural side of life, he said, “and particularly in view of the fact that television will require the screening of as wide a range as possible of New Zealand art, opera, ballet and drama.” Mr Nordmeyer added that the fund would be administered by a trust
