Questionnaire Opposed
The -questioning of Ministerial secretaries on their past activities is an infringement of civil rights, and is out of step with the Government’s proposals to abolish [certain legislation passed during the 1951 waterfront strike, the Canterbury district trades council considers. The council has decided to urge the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) and the Government not to proceed with the questionnaire to Ministerial secretaries, according Ito a statement released by the council’s chairman (Mr F. L. Langley). The council, at a recent meeting, had also passed resolutions congratulating the Government on its decision to abolish the Police Offences Act, 1951, and on its introduction of the Public Safety Conservations Amendment Bill; the statement said.
Property Passed In.—A twostorey brick building at 6 London street, Lyttelton, was passed in at £5300 at auction yesterday. There was one bid of £5300.
