MISSIONARY TEACHERS FROM CITY FOR TANGANYIKA

Two teachers, Mr and Mrs R. i G. Burgess, of Christchurch, will 1 leave New Zealand on July 29 i to god, to Tanganyika as mission- 1 aries.' Mr Burgess has known for '■ about five years that he would do ■ missionary work. He left the Bank of New Zealand, in Christ- ’ church where he had worked for * two years after leaving school ! and attended Christchurch Teachers’ College. He considered training as a teacher a sound qualifi- : cation for his future work. 1 At the teachers’ college he be- ’ came president of the Evangelical ' Union. Mrs Burgess was secretary of the movement two years / earlier in 1955- J Mrs Burgess was born in Gos- f port, in Hampshire, England and 8 came to New Zealand 10 years! ago with her mother and sister. 1 Both attend the Anglican Church® of St John, Woolston. - i For the last 18 months thejj have worked as teachers on the West Coast, Mr Burgess at tahi and Mrs Burgess at Kowhitsrangi. - j They chose Tanganyika as tWe place where their qualifications would be most use to them. Tne Tanganyika Government will play their salaries and their work viill be under the direction of -flhe Church Missionary Society. There are already eight missionaries from Christchurch working • in Anglican fields in Tanganyika. The first year they will (train at Liskeard Lodge, Chislehursit, in Kent, England.
