New Zealand ownersnf two and three-year-olds are not greatly covetous of the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups this year,. Sydney writers said today. Of the 91 two-year-olds weighted for the Nev' Zealand Free Handicap, Young Lochinvar was the only nomination for the Melbourne Cup. None was entered for the Caulfield Cup. Young Lochinvar is on the seventh line of Melbourne Cup favourites. He was rated twentieth of his age with 8-7. The filly Challen was top-weight with 9-9. Only four of the 38 three-year-olds weighted for the Free Handicap of that age were weighted for the rich Melbourne distance races. . They are Commodore Roberts, Howsie, and Rochdale entered for both cups and Sol d’Or entered for the Melbourne Cup only. Rochdale, among the third favourites, is most prominent for the Caulfield Cup on the* third line. Rochdale won- eight of his 10' races in New Zealand this season but not beyond a mile.
