NEW BUILDING IN SQUARE
Effect On Sewers To Be Discussed
The effect on sewers of the proposed new nine-storey Government Life Insurance Office building in Cathedral square was being examined by Mr E. F. Scott, the Chief Engineer (planning), the works committee reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board. The committee said that the building, with offices on the upper floors and shops below, would contain about 600 persons. It was expected that tenders would be called at the end of next February, and that construction would take about three years. Because of the size, the building would probably have certain new problems for the board, the architects had advised, and they would appreciate the opportunity of close liaison in all aspects of plumbing and drainage.
