SEARCH IN SYDNEY
No Trace Of Kidnapper
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 20. Sydney policy today threw a cordon around a large area of the North Shore districts of Sydney when a car suspected of being connected with the Graeme Thorne kidnapping was reported entering the area. The car, which police believe is Carrying false number plates, was not caught. Today the search was continued in western Queensland and the Northern Territory for another car reported early this week as having passed through Mount Isa. Queensland, carrying a boy with his head wrapped in bandages. No progress was reported by police tonight after nearly two weeks’ investigation into the kidnapping. Eight-year-old Graeme Thorne was kidnapped from near his home in the seaside suburb of Bondi, Sydney, on July 7, while on his way to school. About two hours later, a man telephoned the Thorne home and demanded a ransom of £25,000. The kidnapper has made no contact since that call.
