Future Traffic Problem
Mr R. M. Macfarlane, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mayor of the city when the decision to build the Colombo street overbridge was made, said at the opening yesterday that a policy decision of the National Roads Board had had to be made to allow it to make a contribution to bridges and widen the classification of highways. He regretted that it had not been possible to obtain approval to the flyover bridge in Moorhouse avenue. Miss Howard: We will have another go at that, Bob. It might still be possible to get the flyover, Mr Macfarlane continued. There was no doubt there would still be a problem with traffic, although the major problem of delays at the crossing had been solved, and he thought a flyover in the avenue would be found to be a necessity.
