REPORT ON 'QUAKE AT AGADIR
Application To NX Conditions (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 7. The Earthquake and War Damage Commission is seeking information on the disastrous Agadir earthquake for application to New Zealand conditions, according to the report tabled to the House of Representatives today. Agadir is comparable with a number of thickly populated areas in New Zealand, as it is about 50 miles from known seismic activity Recent earthquakes overseas emphasised the desirability of strict compliance with the earth-quake-resistant building standards, the report said. The commission last year had 624 earthquake claims compared with 140 and 308 to the previous two years. Last year’s Picton earthquake resulted to 461 claims. Storm and flood insurance claims totalled 1301. Claims paid and outstanding for the year ended March 31 last totalled £85,751. The total in the earthquake and war damage fund at March 31 was £22,150.870.
