GAY FLAME’S OWNERSHIP
Dismissal Of Charges An objection against Qrst place being awarded to Gay Flame in the Intermediate Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting at Addington on April 16 on the grounds that she was owned by A. J. Rogers, of Westport, a person prohibited from entering a racecourse under Section 33 of the Gaming Act. 1908, was dismissed at a hearing in Christchurch yesterday The objection, which wag laid by the chief stipendiary steward (Mr L A. Butterfield), was heard by a special committee appointed by the New Zealand Trotting Conference. The committee comprised Messrs R E. Booker (chairman). W. E. Desmond and O. Hutchinson. In a second charge Rogers was asked to show cause why he should not be dealt with for having supplied to the secretary of the conference false information contrary to Rule 345 of the Rules of Trotting in that he did wilfully and corruptly notify the secretary on April 13. 1960, that he had sold Gay Flame to J. W. Ditford. In Its finding the committee said that after having heard the evidence adduced by Mr Butterfield and the evidence of Rogers, it was found that although there had been merit in the lodging of the objection, the horse was owned by J. W. Ditford and for that reason the objection bad to be dismissed. As a result of that, the charge against Rogers under Rule 345 also had to fail.
