NAVAL RECRUITER TO RETIRE
Chief Petty Officer A. R. Taylor
Chief Petty Officer A. R. Taylor, the Royal New Zealand Navy recruiter for the Canterbury and West Coast districts since 1954, will retire on August 7. Joining the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy in 1934 as a seaman boy, Chief Petty Officer Taylor served in the Dunedin and the Achilles. During the war he rose to the rank of petty officer in the Achilles and since the war served in the Bejlona and the Taupo.
In 1949 he became chief instructor for the volunteer reserve in Christchurch, and in 1951 and 1952 he served in Korea. Until he accepted the post of naval recruiter in Christchurch, Chief Petty Officer Taylor was in command of one of the Fairmile launches in Auckland. His successor will be Chief Petty- Officer A. E. Gilmour.
