Otaki Scholar Due Today

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 6. The Otaki scholar for 1960 will arrive at Wellington tomorrow in the Rangitane. He is Grant A. T. Allan, aged 16, school captain at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen. Grant is the seventeenth winner of the Otaki Shield to visit this country as the guest of the Government and the New Zealand Shipping Company. He will begin a tour of the Dominion after making officials calls in Wellington t 'morrow. The Otaki Shield commemorates the action on March 10, 1917, in which the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Otaki was sunk by a German raider and her commander, Captain A. BissettSmith, went down with her after ordering his crew to take to the boats. For his part in the action. Captain Bissett-Smith was i awarded a posthumous V.C.
