Harry Jasper, one of three big London financiers on trial in connexion with property deals, was found not guilty today at the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court He was discharged. Jasper, who had been under arrest on bail since last January, was at the Judge’s direction found not guilty on all three charges against him of recklessly making statements which were misleading, false, or deceptive in order to induce shareholders to dispose of their shares. Jasper, the 54-year-old head of a group of investment and property companies, was brought to trial three weeks ago with Herbert Murray, aged 64. former managing director of the State Building Society, and Friedrich Grunwald, a 34-year-old solicitor and company director. The Judge directed the jury to acquit Murray on one count alleging that he knowingly made a false statement to the Registrar of Friendly Societies. The trial then proceeded against Grunwald and Murray on the remaining charges in connexion with the alleged fraudulent conversion of more than £3,250,000 of the State Building Society's money. All accused had pleaded not guilty.
