UNION LIFTS BAN

Decision To Man Kauri (New Zealand Pres* Association) AUCKLAND, July 6. The Seamen’s Union ban on the Union Steam Ship Company’s vessel Kauri was rescinded by unionists at a stop work meeting in Auckland today. The Kauri has been lying idle in Wellington because of the dispute. The seamen’s grievance began in Auckland when they refused to sail with the chief officer of the Kauri who was then in the Koraki. The Union Company had to pay the ship off and she was idle for about a month. “It may be a week or more before the Kauri can be recommissioned,” said the industrial officer for the Union Company (Mr M. A. Belford) this afternoon. “When the dispute arose another vessel took her place in the loading programme and it is now a matter of fitting her back into the trade again.” he said. In the near future a new crew would be signed on at Wellington.
