Junior Fire Service
The North Shore Fire Board. Auckland, proposes to start a North Shore Junior Fire Service, but it has yet to obtain approval from the Fire Services Council. The board hopes to start a group of about 20 boys aged between 13 and 17 years. '■ They would wear distinctive uniforms and after training would be drafted into either the voluntary brigade or the permanent service. The boys wojild go through the same rigorous training as regular firemen. Coaching them would be the task of the North Shore fire chief, Mr R. Preston.
