Mid-Canterbury News HINDS SILVER PLOUGH EVENT WON BY J. C. KYLE

With only 1 1/3 points more than the runner-up, J. C. Kyle, of Timaru, has been announced the winner of the Hinds eliminating event fpr the Atlantic Silver Plough, held in conjunction with the Hinds Young Fanners’ Club’s thirteenth ■ annual ploughing match on the property of Messrs F. I. Lowe and W. E. Lowe on Tuesday.

Results of the eliminating event were not a vailable'for publication on Tuesday owing to a suspected discrepancy in the allocation Of points. A written statement received by ‘‘The Press” from the Hinds Young Farmers’ Club’s

ploughing match committee, yesterday, reads:—

“At 'a meeting of the Hinds Young Farmers’ Club's ploughing match committee held this morning it was found that there was a 10-point error in the recording of .the total points. . Hie committee apologises for this error and regrets the inconvenience that it has caused any competitor.” Kyle, who gained .140 1/3 points out at a possible of 200, will now contest the final at the national championship for , the Atlantic Silver Plough; to be held at Timaru on July 30. The winner of the final will be New Zealand’s contestant in the World Ploughing Championships to be held at Rome on October 9 and JO.

Runner-up Runner-up in the elimination event was R. Brown, of Aidtourton, who had 139 points. There were lOconteptants to. the event In the Timaru final, the 22 persons, who qualify in events in both the North and South Islands will teet -their skill. Under the competition- rules, they will be required to plough two - acres of grass within , three hours, using only mounted or trailer, semidagger two-furrow ploughs fitted with skimmers. Three, eliminating contests for the Atlantic Silver Plough were set down to be held in the Ashburton County. So .far, two have been held', one at Hinds and one at Methven. The winner of the Methven event was W. J. L. Winter, of Rangiora, who gave an outstanding display to win 163.6 points. The runner-up was H. A. Magson, of < Rakaia, with 135 points.

The third and final qualifying event will be held in conjunction with the Rakaia Ploughing Match Association’s royal match, to be contested on July 23 oh the property of Mr N. B. Trotts, Hatfield. Only one* person may qualify at each contest but the rules de not prevent competitors from ploughing in any number of qualifying events. Detailed results of the Hinds qualifying event, following the re-check, are.—

J. Kyle (Timaru), 140 1-3 points, 1; R. Brown (Ashburton), 139 poants, 2; H. A. Magson (Rakaia), 138 j points, 3; J. W. Breading (Rakaia). 137 2-3 points, 4; J. M. Jordan (Blenheim), 127 points, 5.
