HIGH WINDS AT GISBORNE
Telephone Services Interrupted (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE. July 6. High winds in the Gisborne area last night disrupted telephone communications to the north and south Seven poles were brought down north of Wairoa and a slip caused further line damage south of Opotiki. At Tahaenui. north of Wairoa, five poles were brought down. Two others came down at Whakaki. Linesmen made temporary repairs but lines were out for up to four hours and some could not be restored last night. South of Opotiki a slip on the main highway caused damage which was temporarily repaired last night. At Gisborne heavy rain in the afternoon gave way to winds gusting to 48 m p h
