LARGEST SHIP BUILT IN NZ.
Stewart Island Ferry Boat "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, July 4. The largest ship to be built in New Zealand is taking Shape at the yards of Mason Bros., Ltd., at Auckland. She is the new Wairua, a passenger-cargo ship for the Bluff-Stewart Island trade. She wiU also be used to service lighthouses in the Foveaux Strait area. Some of her statistics are: Length 150 feet, beam 31 feet and draught 14 feet 6 inches. She will have a displacement when fully loaded of 750 tons and a service speed of above 12 knots. One feature of the ship will be stabilisers to give greater comfort to passengers in the rough waters of the strait. She Will have day lounges and a coffee bar and wiU be decorated in contemporary colours and style. The ship will cost more than £250,000 and is due to be delivered in June next year. The Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) laid the keel on April 12. Most of the hull is being built under cover but the superstruc-
