Motor-Racing RECORD SET BY BRABHAM

French Grand Prix Trials (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) RHEIMS, June 29. Jack Brabham, the Australian world champion driver, in a Copper, set a new track record of 2min 17sec—an average speed of 135.643 m.p.h.—in today’s trials for the French Grand Prix at Rheims on Sunday, according to British United Press. This was one second faster than the record set by Juan Fangio, the Argentinian, in the trials four years ago, and five seconds faster than the best competitive lap set by Stirling Moss in last year's race. The second fastest driver in the trial was W. Von Trips (Germany) in a Ferrari, followed by the New Zealander. Bruce Maclaren, in a Cooper, W Mairesse, the Belgian, in a Ferrari, and G. Hill, of Britain, in a B.R.M. The trials will continue tomorrow.
