N.Z. PLAYERS’ PLIGHT
Napier Doctor Offers Finance (New Zeaiana Press Association) NAPIER, July 1. A Napier doctor, Dr. H. Karn, today offered to advance an immediate interest-free loan of £lOO for five years to the New Zealand Players—provided 100 people followed his lead —to save the company from disbanding. “If the players are financial in five years, they can pay us back, but -ve should make every effort to save the company from extinction,” Dr. Karn said. “It will be a bad day for New Zealand if our only professional theatre packs up. “I am ashamed that, for tomorrow evening’s final performance, only 100 seats are booked in Napier,” said Dr. Karn. If 100 interested people supported his plan, he felt sure it would give the players a breathing-space in which to recover. Dr. Karn, who is one of i.ve National Party nominees for selection for the Napier seat, has been practising in Napier since 1956.
