RIOTS IN GENOA
90 Admitted To Hospital
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) GENOA, July 1. Brawling, stone-throwing mobs fought a bloody battle against police clubs and tear-gas in the streets of Turin and Genoa last night. Hospital casualty wards were rushed with blood-soaked victims of the battle. At least 90 persons, including many police, were admitted to hospital in Genoa and about 30 in Turin. Police claimed the demonstrators were led by Communist and Left-wing agents, said American Associated Press. Demonstrators met' the clubwielding police with showers of stones from rooftops and barricades of cars. When the police broke through, the demonstrators smashed bar tables to use the legs as clubs. In Genoa, three red riot utility vehicles loaded with police were stormed by the mob. overturned and burned. In Turin, the mob stopped the utility vehicles by throwing themselves down in the road in front of them. The Genoa battle began when police tried to stop a mob of about 10.000 which was marching towards" Genoa's central piazza. They were protesting at the neoFascist Italian Social Movement convention to be held in the city this week-end.
