Denial That U.S. Interested

(Rec. 9.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 30. The State Department said today that the United States “has not been and is not Interested in securing a base in Hollandia or any place else in New Guinea.” This, statement was issued in response to questions about remarks made at a press conference in. The Hague last Tuesday by the United States Chief of Naval Operations (Admiral Arieigh Burke). Admiral Burke was asked if the United States was interested in having a base in Hollandia.
