NATURALISATION OF ALIENS
Compulsion After Five Years Urged
“There are a great number of aliens in New Zealand who receive all the benefits of our way of .life, but .in case of war these aliens do not heed to join the armed forces. Compulsory naturalisation 'would ensure that they fulfilled the same obligations and responsibilities as other New Zealanders,” said Mr R. Lindsay, of Wanganui, when moving the adoption of a remit at the annual conference of the - New Zealand Ex-Prisoners of War Association In Christchurch yesterday. The remit stated: “That It be a recommendation to the appropriate authorities that all foreign immigrants to New Zealand must become naturalised within five years of immigrating to New Zea* land.” The president of the association (Mr J. A. Yule) said that such a proposal was too involved for discussion at the conference. He suggested that the central executive discuss the problem and for* mulate a suitably worded motion for presentation to the Government.
A motion to this effect was passed.
