HURRICANE IN NORTH
Storm Strikes Cape Reinga
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 24. Winds gusting tb more than 100 miles an hour struck Cape Reinga early this afternoon as a storm moved across the north of the North Island from the Tasman Sea. The wind reached 103.5 miles an hour.
Late in the afternoon the wind dropped as the storm moved off to the east of the North Island. A strong breeze was blowing tonight.
Rain fell -almost continually throughout most of the day in the north. During a six-hour period, from noon until 6 p.m., the rainfall at Kaitaia was 1.79 inches. Rainfall at Cape Reinga for the same period was 1.2 inches.
