SAMOAN STUDENTS TO TRAIN IN NZ
Riccarton Rotary Club’s Scheme
A new scheme for extra trade training for students from West-, ern Samoa is being organised by the Riccarton Rotary Club as one of its international service projects. Originally suggested by the Director of Education for Western Samoa (Mr J. Leggat) who was a member of the Riccarton Rotary Club, the scheme will provide extended training which is not available in the students’ own country.
“Applicants are at present being selected from the electrical, radio and motor trades and from women students wishing to further their secretarial training,’’ said Mr F. W. Gilbert, president of the club’s iritemational service committee..
“We- expect to receive from two to four students for a training period of three to six months. They will all be virtually selfsupporting, though we may supplement their travel fares to New Zealand.”
Appealing to members of the
public interested in providing accommodation fordhe students. Mr Gilbert said that this was a great opportunity to further good relations between New Zealand and Western Samoa. “We hope that the scheme as a whole will be beneficial to the future development of Western Samoa,” he said.
