LITTLE ART FESTIVAL
Display By Three Schools
“I am most impressed with the exhibition, and find it quite stimulating,” said Mr J. Oakley, when he opened the “Little Art Festival” in the Durham street art gallery last evening. Art work from three Christchurch high schools was on display at the festival.
Mobiles, and numerous constructions in wire, tin, paper, wood and plaster, representing everything from medieval knights, to a rocket complete with sputnik formed a large section of the exhibition which was organised by the Cashmere, Papanui, and Riccarton High Schools to give the pupils, teachers, and parents an opportunity to see work of this nature under ideal conditions. „ »
There were few attempts at “realism” in the exhibition, abstract compositions and designs forming the greater part of the painting and construction sections. The display, which represented the work of third, fourth, and fifth formers, is the first of its kind to be organised by the art departments of schools in Christchurch.
