N.Z. CRIPPLED CHILDREN

Thanks To Miss Beryl Grey

Sincere appreciation of the gesture of Miss Beryl Grey in inviting crippled children to a special ballet matinee was expressed at a recent committee meeting of the Canterbury and West Coast branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society.

“We are already hearing very glowing accounts of the performance from the children who attended; more children would most certainly have been present but for the severe weather and school examinations,” says a report from, the meeting. During the last month the field staff travelled about 1500 miles. 69 children were transported to and from hospital for treatments 55 children were seen at clinics and 19 homes were visited.

Plans were made for the visit to Christchurch of Dr. M. A. Perlstein of the United States, an international authority on the causes, diagnosis and treatment of cerebral palsy It was announced that- Dr. Perlstein would speak at a public meeting in Christchurch on July 13 on the community’s re*, sponsibility in the care of the cerebral palsied child. The society will join with the Cerebral Palsied Welfare Assocaition at this meeting and the chairman will be Mr J. Leslie Will. Recent donations included a gift of £5 from an anonymous friend in Linwood and a beautifully worked rug, which will be giv.en to a severely handicapped girl who spends most of her life in a wheel chair. The committee expressed thanks for these and many other gifts sent in for its work for crippled children.
