KING EDWARD BARRACKS

Roofing Iron Being

Renewed

The whole roof of the King Edward Barracks is to be re-' newed. There is about 36,000 square feet of corrugated iron. It is believed that these are the first major repairs done to the roof since the barracks were erected early in the century. Work has been under way for some time, and it is hoped that the job will be completed by the end of March next year. The part of the roof overlooking Cashel street, has been renewed, and the lowest sheet of iron has been replaced all around the roof. Some of the brick chimneys on the roof were pulled down because they were unsafe.

The parapets on the roof have been plastered, and the narrow guttering between the parapet and the roof has been widened and a small cat-walk has been put in to make the cleaning of the guttering easier.
