PLAN FOR M.P.’s PENSIONS
LONDON, June 23
After months of argument a bill laying the foundations of a plan to give retired members of Parliament pensions of up to £lOOO yearly is to go before the House of Commons. The bill will allow trustees of the fund, now standing at roughly £lOO,OOO, to invest half the capital in equity shares which will produce a larger income than the present gilt-edged holdings From this new income It is hoped to be able to build up a reserve which will make the £lOOO pension plan possible. It is likely a further bill will eventually give the trustees power to invest more money in equities.
