Soccer TRIAL MATCH FOR TAHITI TOUR
Some Players Out Of Inter-Island Teams
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 20.
Not all of the top 22 soccer players in New Zealand will be seen in the North Island v. South Island match in Auckland on July 16, which is regarded by the New Zealand selectors as a trial for the tour of Tahiti in August. One of the three selectors (Mr R'. A. Speed) said today that some players who were sure of a tour place would not be playing in the inter-island match. “We know what certain chaps can do.” he said, “and we want to see how others shape up in the bigger stuff." In some places in the North-South teams the selectors would be experimenting, he added. The team will be announced at the end of July after the selectors have seen other matches.
