HUNTSBURY BUS ROUTE

Extension Declined

By Board

Huntsbury’s bus route is not to be extended although residents of the hill have offered to turn out an unpaid work force of 20 men on Saturday mornings to build a turnround for the buses. The Christchurch Transport Board yesterday afternoon declined a request from the Huntsbury Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association for changes In the route. The board acted on a recommendation of its works and traffic committee that had counted the number of passengers using the service.

The association had petitioned the board asking for the route to be extended along Huntsbury avenue.

This would serve the houses beyond the present terminus and also give a service to the upper and middle sanatoria, the petition pointed out

The association also asked for recently cancelled night buses to be restored and extended to the gates of the children’s home at the top of Huntsbury avenue and an afternoon school bus leaving the bottom of the hill at 3.20 p.m. Monday to Friday. The board decided to make no changes.
