250,000 th Refugee Migrant

Australia’s 250,000 th refugee migrant will be greeted personally by the Minister for Immigration (Mr A, Downer) when he arrives in Melbourne by air on Wednesday. The migrant, Otto Kampe, aged 41, a crippled artist and musical instrument maker, wiU arrive with his wife. Jautra, aged 41, and five children, aboard a chartered airliner with 85 Austrian migrants. Mr Downer said today that Mr Kampe was a former Latvian, now stateless, who had lived for 15 years in refugee camps after escaping from Riga in 1944. He was being accepted under a special scheme in World Refugee Year.
