KARINA BACK IN N.Z.

Costly Trip To Australia

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 20. The three-year-old sprinter, Karina, came off the Wanganella this morning fit and well after her “mistaken” sea voyage to Sydney and back. The . owner-trainer, T.' H. Knowles, of Awapuni, said aboard the ship this morning that the trip was a costly mistake because of misinformation he received before he left here.

Knowles said he was given to understand that he would be able to race the filly in the Doomben Ten Thousand on July 2 and bring her back to New Zealand afterwards.

He thought the New Zealand Government restrictions on the movement of animals from Queensland to New Zealand did not yet apply. He understood the restriction had not yet been gazetted.

The- director of the animal division of the Agriculture Department (Mr J, E. McElwaine) said today that the three-month restriction had applied for more than 20 years. Last year there was an outbreak of equine disease in Queensland and it was decided here to Increase the three months to six months. It was this regulation which had not yet been gazetted.
