FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A complex depression covers New Zealand, and a ridge of high pressure extends to the south of the South Island from an intense anti-cyclone centred over Tasmania. Forecast: Canterbury.—South to south-west winds, fresh in exposed places; overcast and cold, with further long periods of rain. Outlook: showery. West Coast.—Easterlies, fresh in exposed valley areas; scattered showers about the ranges in Buller, otherwise partly cloudy weather, with moderate day temperatures. Outlook: mainly fine. Nelson and inland Marlborough.—South-east winds, light or moderate inland, fresh outside Tasman Bay; scattered showers about the Ranges, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. Outlook: mainly fair. Coastal Marlborough.—South to south-east winds, fresh in exposed places and probably becoming strong; cloudy and rather cold, with periods of rain. Outlook: showery. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
