Briggs Road
Sir, —It would be interesting to know which local authority is responsible for the maintenance of Briggs road, on the way to Neto Brighton. Some weeks ago reference was made in these columns to the shocking condition of a considerable stretch of this road, which has persisted in varying degrees for at least two years. Perhaps this is a sort of "no man’s land” between adjacent public bodies, in which case the numbers of potholes are certainly reminiscent of the shellpocked terrain between opposing forces in trench warfare. Still, hundreds of people use this road every day, and if anyone gets hurt owing to the condition of the surface, as could well happen, it would be comforting to think that there might be some richlydeserved recriminations. —Yours, etc..
PRIVATE BODY. June 14, 1960. [The Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) said: “The maintenance of Briggs road is the joint responsibility of the City Council and the Waimairi Council which accounts in some degree for the delay in reconstruction. Kerbing and channelling is now being constructed on the south side of the road and tenders will be called for the reconstruction of the roadway to follow the work now in hand."]
