“Miss New Zealand” Popular On Ship
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 19.
“Miss New Zealand" —Miss Lorraine Nawa Jones, from Wellington—has already made a big impression on Americans although she is still a considerable distance away from the United States, where, early next month she will compete in the “Miss Universe” beauty pageant at Miami Beach, Florida. On board the Matson liner, Mariposa, which is carrying a large number of American tourists, she had already become a firm favourite. In a letter received in Dunedin today from the ship, the Dominion promoter of the “Miss New Zealand” contest (Mr J. Brown) said that already she had turned out to x be a perfect ambassadress for her country.
