(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 19.
Colonel W. Murphy has resigned as director of the Auckland Civil Defence and Disaster Organisation.
In a letter asking to be relieved of his post as soon as possible, he accuses the Government of “procrastination and financial tide-stepping” on civil defence. The organisation decided at a meeting on Tuesday to seek financial aid "and more positive action” from the Government after a threat by Colonel Murphy to resign. The Mayor (Mr D. M. Robinion) said today that in view of Tuesday’s decision. Colonel Murphy’s resignation seemed a little premature. “But I can do nothing else but accept it,” he said.
