M. Holmes Equals Own Record
M. Holmes, the Dominion’s leading reinsman eight times since the 1947-48 season, equalled his previous best record, 67 winning drives in the 1954-55 season, when he drove Island Mist to victory in the Waterlea Handicap at Blenheim. on Saturday. Island Mist was Holmes’s third winning drive at Blenheim. He had been successful twice with the maiden pacer, Jack Attack, earlier in the day. Although he will have to go further afield there is a strong possibility that Holmes will create -e new record this season. There are still three meetings before the end of the season but they are all in the North Island.
The only other race for pacers in the South Island this season is the Winter Trot Handicap at the Waimate District Hunt meeting at Waimate next month.
