CYCLING Christchurch Club Wins Hope Gibbons Event

Cyclists had another perfect day cm Saturday when amateura comraced tor the Croft Memorial Trophy, which is also Urn 38-mile chMNNrastoD of the Christchurch club. The Hope Gibbons shield event was won by toe Christchurch team, and these riders will go to Levin on July 3 to take part in the National Hope Gibbons tvent against teams from an toe other centres affiliated to the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, Two teams, Avon A and Papanui, may. be considered a little unlucky/but even without their mlanave returned a time faster tium that of the Christchurch team. The race is a time trial with teams going away at three-minute intervals. Previously the time was taken when the fourth member of the five-man team crossed the line, but under the new rules the times of each of the first four riders of each team are taken: the winning team is found on axarentes. Mairehau Club D. Gutry, who has been showing outstanding form this season in schoolboys and novice racing, was at peak form in the Mairehau clubs nine and a half mile* handicap event. He went through the field to take first place and fastest time, covering the distance in 21mln 27sec. This ride gave Gutry a new record for the distance by 3.6 sec.
