Gty Narrowly Beats Rangers
In the only Hurley Shield sdwer fixture played on Saturday. Christchurch City beat Rangers, 2-1. at Spreydon Domain. This match could .sully have gone the other way, and Rangers can consider themselves unfortunate that a last-minute coal won a game that was ta the Stance right wto the final whistle. Christchurch City was not unduly weakened by its many changes, and apparently has adequate ready to take their place in the first eleven. G. Richards, who was making his last appearance before being transferred to Geraldine, was an able goal-keeper, and ■«««» to be regaining his confidence. D. Niven, in his first-half display st left back, is ready for senior football. R. Laby gave his usual sterling performance as his partner. M. Wilde, at centre half, dominated the middle <rf the field, never wasting a baU and using both feet to put his side on attack. He was the best player on the field. D. Rumbold, a young P«ay» at right gas,. “STS? ® ated most of the movements. His only fault was .that he tried to do a little too much. Rangers wero well served by E. Brown in goal. R. Pearson, at left back, had a trying <>»?. ? eel ?. an knowing a little too much for him on the wing. E. Speake, at right back was solid, and saved his side occasion. P. Cole, at centre half, played well. The Rangers forwaids played better ta the second half but G. Samoon was starved at outside right and had to find bis own play. A. Calderwood made a welcome reappearance at centre forward and never gave up trying. G. Adams was the best of the forwards at inside left, and G. Hinchley, his partner, received a good service and was dangerous oh occareferee was Mr L. J. Holland.
