HUNT CLUB HOLDS POINT-TO-POINT

Many Riders Compete At Vakanui

Competitors from hunt clubs in Christchurch, Ashburton, Waimate and South Canterbury gathered on the property of Messrs A. Amos and Son and the estate of J. Bonifant, at Wakanui on Saturday for the Ashburton branch of the Christchurch Hunt Club’s annual point-to-point steeplechase meet. C. W. Shackell on Card Game won the main event of the . day. the heavy-weight steeplechase, and K. D. Graham waa aeoamd on Ptolamy. The only other competitor tn this event, W. K. Jenkins, on Bay Lupin, was unlucky to fall after the second to last jump. Neither bono nor rider was injured. The juvenile steeplechase wee won by Miss A. Bunting on Gleam. Mln S. Williams, on Dylan, had led the field right up to the last Jump, where her horse cleared the fence on the incorrect side of the marker, causing her to return to take the jump again. This cost her a certain win. Two hones fell in the women's race. Miss J. Thomas, on Brightspark, fell towards the end of the event but continued to finish second. Mrs L T. McDonald on Day’s Bay won the race. Mias J. L. Jaine on El-Dorado did not complete the course.
