Lawn Tennis MEN’S SINGLES TO SPANIARD
Queen’s Club Championship
(fI.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, June 18. The Spanish No. 1 player, A. Gimeno, became the first player from his country to win the London grass court championship men’s singles when he beat the Australian, R. Emerson, today. Gimeno won in straight sets, 8-6, 6-3, on the Queen’s Club courts. Gimeno’s net-rushing game and his tactics of concentrating on Emerson’s forehand gave him victory. He now looms as a big danger to the seeded players at Wimbledon next week. Gimeno has beaten two of the seeded players this week, R. Krishnan, the seventh seed, and today Emerson, who is No. 6. In the women’s final, C. Truman, of Britain, took the first set against the young American, K. Hantze, 6-4. Miss Truman was more consistent than her opponent who served erratically and lost many points on her own errors. In the second set. Miss Hantze played some fine shots and although she was still inclined to be erratic she ran to a 3-1 lead before Miss Truman turned on the pressure and stormed through the next five games to take the set and the match. Her booming service and powerful volleying were too much fox the little American girl Results:—
