MAORI HOUSING INVESTIGATION
Report On Tauranga Conditions Arranged
(New Zealand Press Association) TAURANGA, June 16.
The Maori Affairs Department will conduct an investigation into Maori housing conditions in Tauranga. The Mayor (Mr D. S. Mitchell) today received a letter from the Prime Minister and Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Nash) which said that his department had been informed of criticism of Maori housing in the district, and had arranged for a report to be prepared. Mr Mitchell recently reported on sub-standard Maori dwellings in and around Tauranga to a meeting of the borough council.
